A data warehouse is a computer system used to store information regarding the activities of an organization in databases in a consolidated way. The data warehouse enables the analysis of large volumes of data, collected from transactional systems (OLTP). The time series allow for a better analysis of past events, providing support to current decision making and forecast of future events.

 

By definition, the data in a data warehouse are not volatile, that is, they do not change unless corrections to data previously loaded are needed. So, the data are available for read-only purposes and may not be changed. The most common tool to explore a data warehouse is Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) or Analytical Process in Real Time. To assemble a data warehouse, you must configure the items that will be described in the following section:
