Adding an external link

SE GanttChart allows the linking of a task of the project in question with the task of another project. This resource must be used when the start and end dates of a project task depend on the task of another project, which is not a subproject or is directly related to the project in question. See how to perform this operation:

1.In the structure, select the task you wish to establish an external link with.

2.After that, click on the External link option from the Project tab.

3.At this point, the following screen will be displayed:

It is important to point out that:

▪If the project in question has its time format defined as "Days", only the projects that have the same time format configuration may be added to the tasks. That is, project tasks with a time format set as "Days" may not be linked with tasks with "Hours" time format and vice versa.

▪This resource will not be available when accessing SE GanttChart of a project template.

4.In the Predecessor tab, click on the button on the side toolbar and fill out the following fields of the screen that will open:

Task: The fields in this section are be filled in with the data of the task selected in the project structure; however, it is possible to edit them. In this case, select the WBS, ID # or Name of the project with which the link will be established.

Predecessor: Use the fields in this section to define the external task that will be linked. First, select the ID # or Name of the project whose tasks you wish to link. After that, select the WBS, ID # or Name of the previously selected project to be linked. Set also the dependency type between the tasks and if any, the lag that should be applied.

▪After filling in the necessary fields, save the record. At this point, the external task (predecessor) will be displayed in the project structure and, in the chart area, it will be represented by a gray bar.

▪Use the other buttons on the side toolbar in this tab to edit or delete an external link.

5.The Successor tab will only be filled in if the task selected in the structure is an external link (predecessor) of another task. In that case, the system will display the data of the successor tasks it is associated with.
